Found Miles

I just got a pedometer to take to Disney. I wore it to work on Friday to see how it worked. According to that, I average 3 miles a day at work. I've worked approximately 105 days since Jen started the Challenge (even accounting for surgery time out, etc.), so we are clear to go. We are now approved to have fun.

I love your new lamb pet! I didn't know we could add sound to our pets. It took me awhile to figure out where that munching sound came from. :-)

Mileage

Way to go Andy! Our 4 miles a day didn't add up very fast - but we were reasonably faithful about our walking/biking. We should be in good shape for Disney cruising.
Mom

Congrats to Jen

Congratulations to Jen on meeting her weight-loss goal. At least one of us did!

so close!

Holy Cow, with Andy's miles added in, we're only 197 miles away from Orlando.

And Charlotte just got back from a short bike ride, so I'll add her 3 miles.

Let's see how close we can get!

GOOD DR REPORT FOR DISNEY TRIP

Hi! My DR said I should be good to go for Disney and that I have lost 10 lbs since Dec when I was in. She LOVES the idea of the Disney Challenge and put it in her notes to check again just before we leave for Orlando. She actually wants me to come in one more time before I leave to tell her how I am doing.

Now, she says I can drink SPLASH, diet Tropical. It is just as good as lemon juice and easier for travel.

So...all of you people whose ears are growing bigger and mouse like :)), keep the challenge alive!

Love, GP

No Posts?!?

Hi! I noticed that no one had posted in a long time, so I decided to make my first post! I'm very excited, and I don't know if I'll be able to wait until August when we go. I'm also excited about spring break which started yesterday for me. Happy Easter!!!

ONE MORE DOWN

Hey!

I am one more down on my lbs. Only 17 to go before Disney. This is wonderful incentive!

I have 4 T-Shirts of color (blue, red, yellow and green) picked out for 4 days. Charlotte is suggesting we also use purple! OK by me!

AND...we now have the new Disney World promotional DVD to show you when you come for Easter. Pretty slick vid and everybody is smiling...just like our family!

I Would Walk Two Hundred Miles

Two Hundred Miles! Wow, mousketeers, that's a great milestone!

At this rate, we'll be able to walk to Orlando AND home again. And then maybe a few times around the block after that!

Miriam was quite proud to be the one to roll us past the 1,000-miles-to-go mark. But this whole thing is a great team effort. Just wait 'til spring really comes to stay and we can get on our bikes!

Pets & Planning

I agree about the pets. I think I need one, too!

Also, do we want to do color days like we did last time? I looked at our pictures from 2003 and saw our red day, blue day, etc. If we are there 5 days, we need one more color in addition to red, blue, green, and yellow. What do you think????

Car travel.Lv Sat for Orlando: Gm, Gp, Braden for sure. Tom, I will ask ab a van. Last time there were none.

Air Lv Sun: Krocs, Sara, Andy (?), Lizzy (?).

Let me know about travel needs and other ideas. Love, Gp

How to post your miles

...It's so simple, a pickle could do it.

To add your miles to the family total, start by clicking on the "On our way to Orlando" ticker above. That will connect you with the tickerfactory site, and specifically to the page for updating info. The password is the same as our code word for our Talkie Walkies (or see above, hint hint).

Click on "Edit/Update Data."

Here's the only tricky part: to add your miles to the total, DON'T type your day's miles in the box and then click on "Add." CLICK ON "ADD" FIRST, and then wait for the dialog box to pop up (you might have to tell your browser to temporarily allow the popup) and type your miles in the dialog box. If you type your daily miles in the box on that first tickerfactory page and then click "add," it will reset the total milage to whatever number you just typed in. Got that?

Oh, and the dialog box will ask for "payment made" or something odd like that. It will still show up as miles.

It's also perfectly fine to just post your miles here, like Grandma did, and I can add them to the ticker for you.

I can see that we're off to a good start, but I think I need to figure out how many miles I can count for my regular Curves workout so I can contribute my fair share! How many "miles" do you think a person goes running in place for fifteen minutes??

Contributions

We are a bit "off schedule" this week, but did manage to each walk 1.5 miles this afternoon. So add us in for an additional 3 miles.

I'm in too!

Count me in. In fact, count me in for 10 miles. I had to resort to the indoor bike because of all this snow.

Also, I had a thought. Since we'll already have a car down there, maybe we should rent a van. That would give us more transportation options and allow us to avoid the lines in the morning. I suspect we'll make up half the cost of the rental in saving the rides to and from the airport.

Hey - I'm in! Grp

Hi all!

What a neat blog. Jen, I want a weight challenge just like you have...same pounds and everything! Can you set that up for me? And give me one pound loss, just like you with 19 to go. Then let me know what I need to do to enter data in the mileage and weight loss things!

I have a AAA Disney book and I plan to go next week to see the travel agent.

This thing has legs...

Welcome to The Disney Challenge 2008!

Here we can strive together to become better, stronger, faster, and more prepared Pickles. Our destination is a magical place...a place of fun, fantasy, walking, adventure, walking, thrills, sights, and lots and lots of walking! The more we challenge ourselves now, the more we'll enjoy our adventure in August.

We Hereby Challenge each and every one of our company to set a personal goal, and to be accountable to each other to reach that goal. Your goal might be one of physical fitness. You might, for example, set a weight loss target, or calculate a number of workout sessions to be achieved between now and our departure. (Jen and Grandpa are already negotiating details on this one!)

Or perhaps your goal is a significant project, deadline, or experience that you have taken on and pledge to complete before August 3rd. Share the steps along that process with us here, so that we can witness your committment, cheer you on, and heave that sigh of satisfied relief with you when it is accomplished! (Grandma, I hear you have some journaling on your mind?)

It would still be fun to walk the miles to Orlando too, like we did last time. That would be...1181 miles. Divided between the ten of us, that's just a squeak over 118 miles per person. If we figure 24 weeks between RIGHT NOW and August 3rd, then that's...4.9 miles, per person, per week. Whatcha think? Walking, biking, treadmills, jogging in place, running in gym or between classes...it all counts.

I'll send email invitations so every one of us (who wants to) can write posts here on this blog. We can also comment on each other's posts. You will probably have to sign up for a Google account if you don't have one already.

Do you like the countdown ticker up there in the corner, and the milage counter at the top? Anyone who wants a personal ticker can make their own at tickerfactory.com - VERY easy - and I can help get it to show up here - also pretty easy. Hint: After you create your ticker, it will show you boxes with HTML code. Select and copy that code, and email it to me. So simple!

So...who's in for the challenge?
