so close!

Holy Cow, with Andy's miles added in, we're only 197 miles away from Orlando.

And Charlotte just got back from a short bike ride, so I'll add her 3 miles.

Let's see how close we can get!

On the Move Again

Well, I can't ride yet. But, I've started walking again at work. Three miles this week.

all this and daffodils too

Just an update...

One of the miles I just posted was Tom's! He is feeling good and went for a walk around the block today.

And check out my skinny-O-meter over there...Yay! Go me!

I Would Walk Two Hundred Miles

Two Hundred Miles! Wow, mousketeers, that's a great milestone!

At this rate, we'll be able to walk to Orlando AND home again. And then maybe a few times around the block after that!

Miriam was quite proud to be the one to roll us past the 1,000-miles-to-go mark. But this whole thing is a great team effort. Just wait 'til spring really comes to stay and we can get on our bikes!

How to post your miles

...It's so simple, a pickle could do it.

To add your miles to the family total, start by clicking on the "On our way to Orlando" ticker above. That will connect you with the tickerfactory site, and specifically to the page for updating info. The password is the same as our code word for our Talkie Walkies (or see above, hint hint).

Click on "Edit/Update Data."

Here's the only tricky part: to add your miles to the total, DON'T type your day's miles in the box and then click on "Add." CLICK ON "ADD" FIRST, and then wait for the dialog box to pop up (you might have to tell your browser to temporarily allow the popup) and type your miles in the dialog box. If you type your daily miles in the box on that first tickerfactory page and then click "add," it will reset the total milage to whatever number you just typed in. Got that?

Oh, and the dialog box will ask for "payment made" or something odd like that. It will still show up as miles.

It's also perfectly fine to just post your miles here, like Grandma did, and I can add them to the ticker for you.

I can see that we're off to a good start, but I think I need to figure out how many miles I can count for my regular Curves workout so I can contribute my fair share! How many "miles" do you think a person goes running in place for fifteen minutes??

Welcome to The Disney Challenge 2008!

Here we can strive together to become better, stronger, faster, and more prepared Pickles. Our destination is a magical place...a place of fun, fantasy, walking, adventure, walking, thrills, sights, and lots and lots of walking! The more we challenge ourselves now, the more we'll enjoy our adventure in August.

We Hereby Challenge each and every one of our company to set a personal goal, and to be accountable to each other to reach that goal. Your goal might be one of physical fitness. You might, for example, set a weight loss target, or calculate a number of workout sessions to be achieved between now and our departure. (Jen and Grandpa are already negotiating details on this one!)

Or perhaps your goal is a significant project, deadline, or experience that you have taken on and pledge to complete before August 3rd. Share the steps along that process with us here, so that we can witness your committment, cheer you on, and heave that sigh of satisfied relief with you when it is accomplished! (Grandma, I hear you have some journaling on your mind?)

It would still be fun to walk the miles to Orlando too, like we did last time. That would be...1181 miles. Divided between the ten of us, that's just a squeak over 118 miles per person. If we figure 24 weeks between RIGHT NOW and August 3rd, then that's...4.9 miles, per person, per week. Whatcha think? Walking, biking, treadmills, jogging in place, running in gym or between classes...it all counts.

I'll send email invitations so every one of us (who wants to) can write posts here on this blog. We can also comment on each other's posts. You will probably have to sign up for a Google account if you don't have one already.

Do you like the countdown ticker up there in the corner, and the milage counter at the top? Anyone who wants a personal ticker can make their own at tickerfactory.com - VERY easy - and I can help get it to show up here - also pretty easy. Hint: After you create your ticker, it will show you boxes with HTML code. Select and copy that code, and email it to me. So simple!

So...who's in for the challenge?
